Houdini : the british Tours by Derek Tait

Many photos and illustrations.

From the back cover:

Houdini made his first visit to Great Britain in 1900 and appeared at the Alhambra Theatre in London between July and September of that year before returning again to the theatre in December. His further tours took him all around Britain visiting all its major cities including Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Bristol.

People flocked in their thousands to see his shows and to experience his many outdoor appearances where he would regularly leap from bridges shackled in handcuffs and chains.

This book covers many of these appearances. Follow Houdini as he tours Britain appearing in venues in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Read about his stage act, his escapes from police cells and handcuffs, his leaps in chains from bridges around the UK, his escapes from trunks, milk cans and the infamous, 'Water Torture Chamber'. Experience his many challenges from members of the public, his disagreements with other artists, his successes and failures.

Featuring newspaper reports of the day, eyewitness accounts together with many photos, posters and illustrations, this book provides a compelling account of Houdini's many visits to Great Britain.
