Born in Plymouth in 1961, Derek Tait lived his early years in Singapore and Malaysia and has written several books about his time there, including 'Sampans, Banyans and Rambutans'.
His books include '1950s Childhood,' '1960s Childhood,' 'A 1970s Childhood,' 'Butlins An Illustrated History' as well as many books in the 'Through Time' series for Amberley Publishing.
New books for 2017 include 'Aberdeen in the First World War,' 'Devon at War (1939-1945),' 'Cornwall at War (1939-1945),' and 'The Great Houdini : His British Tours.'
He has also written many local history books including 'Plymouth,' 'Plymouth at War,' 'Saltash Passage,' 'St Budeaux,' 'Plymouth Hoe,' 'Mount Edgcumbe,' 'Saltash,' 'Memories of St Budeaux,' 'Plymouth Tales From the Past' and 'Images of Plymouth : Stonehouse.'
As well as 'Sampans, Banyans and Rambutans,' other books about Singapore include 'Memories of Singapore and Malaya,' 'More Memories of Singapore and Malaya' and 'Monsoon Memories.'
